LION Smart begins Lithium-ion battery tests; scientist joins advisory board

MUNICH, Germany - A freshly built lab has enabled lithium-ion battery tester and developer LION Smart to begin testing electric storage devices. Outfitted with the latest equipment, the new lab has 8 test channels, which means its scientists can design testing procedures with utmost flexibility.

Battery tests can now be done under high-power current, according to specifications of FreedomCAR, the United States Advanced Battery Consortium (USABC) and the German Association of Automakers (VDA). On top of pure cyclization tests, LION Smart offers thermal management of lithium-ion batteries with algorithms and optimization of cooling concepts.

Separately, the company has welcomed its second advisory board member, Ferdinand Wiesbeck, a scientist at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and an expert in electrified drive propulsion systems. He will advise LION Smart on its research & development program.

Mr. Wiesbeck has two registered inventions to his credit. An academic, he assists the TUM chair in automotive engineering at the Electric Mobility research centre, where he leads the "Functionality of wheel-select propulsion systems" project.
